Muriel Spark, whose birth centenary falls in February 2018, is now widely considered to be the most important Scottish writer of the 20th century. She was also an exile, a poet, and a code-breaker. She may be most famous for The Prime Of Jean Brodie but she wrote more than 20 novels, plus poems and plays.

In this series, five female Scottish writers, Ali Smith (Monday) Kate Clanchy (Tuesday) Janice Galloway (Wednesday) Val McDermid (Thursday) Louise Welsh (Friday) present their very different takes on her life and work.
