The Susan Manning Memorial Lecture 2018: Janice Galloway: “‘There’s something a bit harsh about you, Fleur’: Muriel Spark and her voices”
To tie in with the Muriel Spark centenary, the Susan Manning Memorial Lecture 2018 will be an exploration of ‘Spark and her voices’ by Janice Galloway, the author of award-winning novels, short stories and books of non-fiction, including Clara, This is Not About Me, All Made Up and The Trick is to Keep Breathing. Her collaborative work includes a range of texts for typographers, visual artists, sculptors, musicians and videographers including Sally Beamish, Calum Colvin and Anne Bevan. Her latest book, Jellyfish, is a collection of short stories inspired by the separate but connected worlds of sex and child-rearing. The paperback edition of Jellyfish will be published by Granta in 2018.
Susan Manning was Grierson Professor of English Literature at the University of Edinburgh until her unexpected death in 2013. This annual lecture is in memory of her as an internationally renowned academic and inspiring influence in the humanities.
