The International Style of Muriel Spark
December 8, 2017 - May 13, 2018Free
Muriel Spark was the crème de la crème of Scottish writing. Famous for The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, and lauded as ‘a profoundly serious comic writer’, Dame Muriel was critically acclaimed the world over.
Join us on a virtual journey to the locations Dame Muriel called home; from Edinburgh to Africa, London, New York, Rome, and Tuscany, in our exhibition ‘The International Style of Muriel Spark’.
From the poverty of bohemian bedsits in post-war London, to the glitz of 60s New York and the glamour of 70s Rome, Dame Muriel hoarded ‘two things: documents and trusted friends’.
See archive material and personal artefacts which illuminate the inspirations behind her literary style, her love of fashion, and the significance of the places where she lived, and read the amazing correspondence she maintained with stars and literary figures from around the world.
